To all friends of Jeel al Amal

Thirty children attended the "Summer camp 2012" at Jeel al Amal which lasted for one month. During the summer the number of children continues to rise as some leave for a short period of a couple of days or a week and then return to Jeel al Amal.

Four volunteers from England arrived and helped with the summer camp. They arranged activities during the day like art craft and games. The volunteers also accompanied the children to trips around Palestine: Jericho, Nablus, the zoo.

Twice a week the children went swimming which they enjoyed so much, especially with the burning heat in Palestine. Amazing how well the children swim and dive under water!

There was also a special IT program in "Said Khoury for IT", where the children learned how to work on various applications like Photoshop. During one of the IT workshops a boy of 13 years found out that one of the computers was not working. So he took it apart and assembled it again, much to the surprise of the workers and everybody present. A very smart and handy boy!

It is noteworthy to mention that the highlight of the summer camp this year was the "day of Joy" which was organized by Husam Husseini. It was such a wonderful day where the children enjoyed water games and all kinds of amazing competitions.

They also donated the costumes: shorts, blouse and cap. The children laughed like they had never done before. In between those activities the children enjoyed a snack which was also donated by Husam Husseini.

It is so heartwarming to watch the children and see how the older boys take care of the younger ones. They are like one family in an atmosphere full of love and understanding.

Despite the harsh reality of the daily life of those children and the political restrictions imposed on Bethany as a small village lying outside the separation wall, the children enjoy themselves and their laughter proves once again that hope is always alive and that a bright future awaits them.
