To all friends of Jeel al Amal

The six children of Alice and Basil have taken the lead. They did put on paper the planning and organization structure, searched candidates for the board, and made contacts with authorities to explain matters.

Early January a new board was elected by the General Assembly which consists of about 35 people. Most of them are associated with institutions and organizations. One board member is in function from the beginning of Jeel al Amal, which ensures continuity. There are two women: one B. A. Educational and Najwa Sayegh-Sahhar, who was re-elected. Four new members lived as a child in Jeel al Amal, a lawyer, a computer engineer who is professor at El Kuds University, a manager at a hospital and the UNRWA, and a businessman. All together a fresh, rejuvenated board.

It is an entrepreneurial governance. Old dreams are put on the agenda: such as to extend Jeel al Amal school with new classes for three grades of secondary education. There are plans to buy land. Committees and working groups will begin fundraising and PR. A Director will be appointed and their will come a web-site. The URL will be: www.jeelalamal.org. The new design for Jeel al Amal is accepted and the 2009 budget is approved.

In 1972 Alice and Basil Sahhar followed their hearts. They simply began in Bethany with Jeel al Amal: the Generation of the Hope. Much has been achieved. This will be further expanded.

“It goes well with Jeel al Amal”, Najwa enthusiastically says. We, friends of Jeel al Amal, may contribute to keep this hope for a better future alive. Thanks in advance.

With the wish that 2009 may be a hopeful year for all.
